Talon the Singer

One thing about Talon is that he loves to sing.  That kid will take a nap and sing to himself for an hour before falling asleep.  In the mornings, I'm usually up between 5:30 and 6:00AM and when I get out of the shower, I usually hear him in his room, happily singing to start the day.  During the day, as he plays, he usually has some song coming out of his mouth. Sometimes he makes up his own songs, but we are constantly surprised by the lyrics he remembers.  It often sounds like a bunch of gibberish because he still has a ways to go with pronunciation, but when we listen closely usually we are amazed at the words he is actually singing.

Here are a couple videos of his talent.... not his best work, but usually his best work is not caught on camera.  In fact, he is generally a camera-phobe and will stop performing the minute we bring it out.  Notice, I said we are often surprised by the lyrics.  The melody... not so much ;)

Talon Turns Two

The day has come. Talon is officially "terrible."  To be honest, he has been practicing for a while now and pretty much only needed the birthday for us to use it as an excuse ;)

His sisters are older and more experienced.  They were anticipating and getting excited for his birthday more than he was.  They know that a birthday means presents and cake and the limelight.  He really didn't, but you've never seen a kid that knows how to manipulate his sisters more.  He is the one pushing the buttons and in charge.

Anyway, the birthday celebration was simple and small, but the kids had a blast.  The cake was a classic because the girls "helped" to make it and they all loved it.  The only problem was getting the candles blown out without getting burned... so they could start eating (see video).

Note:  I know what the song above is about.... the nice thing about music is that you can create your own meanings and it can symbolize whatever you want.  Talon's candle blowing/burning abilities are interestingly related to how he lives his life.  A sweet melody and a pretty smile with a slow burn - dangerously close to the eyes... and you better watch out or the whole house might erupt in chaos.  Plus, try thinking of a song with burn/fire in it that doesn't.... have a symbolic meaning.

This has nothing to do with our family or the Middle East... but it is worth mentioning.

I've been listening lately to The Cars new album "Move Like This" lately.  It is their first new album in 24 years and you would've never guessed.  If you grew up in the 80s, or like any of The Cars classic hits, you should give it a listen.

Even the videos are like running into an old friend and picking up right where you left off.
